18 local government organs participate, procured 5.5 billion won for construction 

Displayed potential of government-academic cooperation to foster local talents

 In 2 years since starting the construction of the Yeungnam University Hometown Living Dormitory, 18 of 24 local government organs in Daegu (Dalseong-gun) and Gyeongbuk participated in the construction of this. Construction funds amounted to 5.5 billion won.

 Yeungnam University Hometown Living Dormitory, which will become the cradle of regional talents, is being constructed through co-efforts of the university and government. The Hometown Living Dormitory will be completed in January and will accommodate 780 students in here in the first semester of next year.

 In May 2006, Yeungnam University announced the beginning of the \'Hometown Living Dormitory construction project\' with the objective of fostering local talents. In the same month on the 15th, Uiseong-gun became its first project. In 2006, Yeongcheon, Seongju-gun, Chilgok-gun and Goryeong-gun also joined. In 2007, Sangju, Mungyeong, Dalseong-gun, Cheongdo-gun, Andong and Pohang also joined. This year, Gyeongju joined in January, Cheongsong-gun joined in May, Gunwi-gun joined in August, Gimcheon joined in September and Gyeongsan and Gumi joined in October.

 Finally, on December 17, Uljin-gun also shared their efforts for Yeungnam University Hometown Living Dormitory. Uljin-gun donated 200 million won for construction of the building and Yeungnam University responded by promising priority to 20 students from Uljin-gun during the next semester.

 President Tong-ki Woo (56) stated, \"This project became possible only because we understood that our region\'s future can only be guaranteed by fostering local talents through the cooperative efforts of regional universities and local government.\" He also added, \"Yeungnam University will cooperate even more assertively with the local community in the future.\"

 Yeungnam University Hometown Living Dormitory began construction in April last year and it is composed of three buildings with a total area of 17,495㎡.
