 Yeungnam University Jo Gyeong-hyeon (40, School of Biotechnology) was awarded at the \'8th Gyeonbuk Science Technology awards\'


 According to Yeungnam University on the 13th, Professor Jo was awarded for the \'Rising Science Technology\' for this development of diagnosis kit manufacturing diagnosis methods that allow early detection of myocardial infarction and treatment methods that can remove arteriosclerosis using protein-based pharmaceuticals.

 Professor Jo\'s research on removing the lesion of arteriosclerosis and treatment proteins have already been proven for its effects through experiments on animals and it is a focal point of international interest since its publication on an international academic journal. In addition, patent registration in Korea (registration no. 10-0560102) and in the US (registration no. 7273849) have also been complete.

 With support from the \'Yeungnam University Aging-associated Vascular Disease Research Center\' the research achievements for manufacturing the acute myocardial infarction diagnosis kit opened a path for predicting myocardial infarction quickly and easily. Professor Jo discovered a bio-marker that distinguishes diagnosis for heart attacks and myocardial infarction through several years of research and has completed application for patent in Korea (patent application no. 10-2008-0006829).

 These research results are evaluated as highly important from a social-economic aspect as well. It not only made it possible for early detection and treatment of heart and cardiovascular diseases (myocardial infarction, heart attacks), which take up a great portion of adult death rates and sudden deaths, but also contributes in the development of related industries.

 Thus, Professor Jo was presented the Science Technolody award by Gyeongsangbuk-do (province) at the opening ceremony of the \'9th Gyeongbuk Science Festival\' held at the Gimcheon Indoor Gym at 2pm on the 17th.

 Professor Jo completed his post-doc course at the University of Illinois and worked as a researcher at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and as a senior researcher at the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology. Since March 2005, he has become a professor at Yeungnam University School of Biotechnology. Together with his vast research, he has published 20 theses at SCI level international academic journals in the past three years and has applied for or registered 4 patents in Korea and 1 patent in the US. He has also received international fame being registered in the Marquis \'Who\'s Who\'.
